To any interested travelers, I would HIGHLY recommend hiking in the Usambaras with Good Luck as your guide! We did a three day trip with him to Mtae and it was by far the highlight of our trip. Good Luck is not only incredibly knowledgeable about the plants, animals, mountains, culture, languages, people, economy, folklore, etc. of the Usambaras, he is also a really fun guy to be around. I ended up staying in Lushoto for a few extra days just to hang out with him because we had become such good friends. I even returned to the Usambaras 5 months later with some other friends because I couldn't miss another opportunity to spend time with Good Luck! If you are looking for an "authentic African" adventure, Good Luck is your man. I spent a total of eight months in East Africa working and learning Swahili and this was the only semi-touristy thing that I did where I did not feel like a complete tourist. We made a genuine connection and were not ripped off in any way. The other locals we met along the way were very warm and welcoming, even inviting us into their homes for tea when it started to rain. Hiking the Usambaras on your own is not feasible so better you go with a great local guide like Good Luck than one of the many bigger companies. Enjoy!
I also enjoyed two years ago 3 days tour to Mtae with Goodluck! He is the best looking for chamaleons, hahaha! you always will feel like at home in Lushoto with these guys. if you want something different from the tipical tours of Tanzania don´t hesitate to make Mtae tour. you will enjoy with amazing landscapes, local people and very friendly guide. best regards Goodluck!!
